Endoscopic treatment of upper calyx stones techniques and results

The author presents a brief introduction of the current techniques in the treatment of lithiasis. Attention is focused on renal and ureteral calculi treated by PCN or ureterorenoscopy. The authors emphasize the possibility of treating any type of stones using these 2 methods alone or in combination when ESWL is available. For ureterorenoscopy, the shorter instrumentations is preferred. A 100% success rate is reported for both PCN and ureterorenoscopic removal of stones. One session mean hospital stay for PCN is 2.9 days 2.2 days for ureterorenoscopy.
