Endoscopy and barium enema a comparative study

Endoscopy and barium enema a comparative study

Revista Medica del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social 23(6): 447-451

In a review of 200 clinical records of patients with colorectal pathology we find that 96.5 percent, of them had colonoscopy and 90.5 percent had barium studies. In 76.5 percent of the group a definitive diagnosis was obtained. In 125 (65 percent) patients the diagnosis was made with endoscopic findings. In 90 (45 percent) the barium enema showed the pathology. Colonoscopy and barium enema studies do not compete regarding diagnostic effectivity, but on the contrary they complement each other.
