Endoscopy of rumen and reticulum in sheep with experimentally induced hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis

Endoscopy of rumen and reticulum in sheep with experimentally induced hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis

Magyar Allatorvosok Lapja 40(1): 30-33

An adequate method was elaborated for the endoscopy of rumen and reticulum. Permanent, artificial rumen fistula was prepared in sheep and the flexible GFB-Olympostype human gastroscope was introduced through a plastic cannula placed into the orifice of fistula. Before endoscopy, water was added to the rumen content and the rumen was rinsed to obtain better visibility. The method was suitable to the examination of the mucosa of dorsal and ventral sacs of rumen and of reticulum. Mucosal damages of rumen (hyper- and parakeratosis) induced by feeding exclusively finely ground maize meal could be diagnosed by endoscopy under experimentally conditions.
