Endothelial cells in the oral mucosa of Bufo marinus

Endothelial cells in the oral mucosa of Bufo marinus

Journal of Anatomy 130(Pt 3): 559-569

The oral mucosa of the cane toad, B. marinus, is lined by a pseudostratified, columnar ciliated epithelium with goblet cells and has an intraepithelial network of capillaries within it which reaches up to the bases of the distal layer of cells. The structure of the endothelial cells and their relationship to the epithelial cells were investigated by both light microscopy and EM. EM showed that endothelial cells were fenestrated and joined to each other by tight junctions.
