Entero toxigenic escherichia coli in fecal samples from acute infant diarrhea

Entero toxigenic escherichia coli in fecal samples from acute infant diarrhea

Igiene Moderna 75(2): 213-222

E. coli L-toxin producing strains were studied. E. coli were isolated from 153 fecal samples collected from infants with acute diarrhea in sporadic or epidemic form. Chinese hamster ovarian cell assay was used. Toxigenic strains of E. coli were isolated from 39.9% of the samples studied. The isolation rate reached 54.5% and 77.8% in samples from 2 outbreaks of diarrhea.
