Epidemiological approach to the study of goiter in the eastern canary islands grand canary fuerteventura and lanzarote spain
While there are no up to date and deep epidemiological studies on goiter in the Eastern Canary Islands (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote), due to the great number of inpatients with goiter pathology in the last ten years, we wanted to study, from their medical records, some personal characteristics of these patients, and to know also the economic cost due to these hospitalizations and to evaluate their geographical origin, having in mind the diagnosis directly related to goiter. This study will be the first step in order to know the prevalence of goiter in these islands and to establish a plan for fighting against it.
