Epidemiological control of intestinal nematodoses in a rural area of zaire
To establish the rational organization of a mass campaign to control intestinal parasites in villages of a rural zone in Lower Zaire, a prevalence study was made of 3056 inhabitants. Coprologic examination determined the following mean levels of prevalence: Ascaris lumbricoides 57%, Ancylostoma 51%, Strongyloides stercoralis 14% and Trichuris trichiura 11%. A 9 mo. prospective survey indicated the optimal therapeutic coverage needed in the municipalities concerned, using the epidemiological data as a reference.
