Epidemiological studies on clonorchiasis in okayama prefecture part 1 geographical distribution of the 1st intermediate host snail parafossarulus manchouricus

A survey on the distribution of the 1st intermediate host, P. manchouricus of Clonorchis sinensis [human liver fluke] was carried out in Okayama Prefecture [Japan] during the period May 1974-Sept. 1976. P. manchouricus was found in 122 stations of the southern part in Okayama Prefecture of all 376 stations surveyed. Snails tended to increase in number in the recent years, and were newly found in some stations. The distributing area of the snail was in the range of about 70 km from east to west and 30 km from north to south throughout an open field in the southern part of the prefecture. Snail density was particularly high in areas close to Lake Kojima including the Sasagase and the Kurashiki Rivers.
