Epidemiological studies on dental caries among korean children i dental caries experience rate of children in a mountain village

, : Epidemiological studies on dental caries among korean children i dental caries experience rate of children in a mountain village. Kyungpook University Medical Journal 21(1): 330-336

To determine the socio-geographic incidence of dental caries the dental caries experience rate (DCER) in the deciduous and permanent teeth of 1265 Korean children, aged 7-12 yr, residing in a mountain village, was studied. The DCER was 72.44% at the age of 7 yr, 73,02% at 10 yr and 71.07% at 12 yr. The overall DCER was 73.83% in boys and 75.44% in girls. The average number of carious teeth per mouth was 4.24 at the age of 7 yr, 3.74 at 9 yr and 2.79 at 12 yr, and so decreased with aging within the mixed dentition period. The decayed teeth rate was 100.00% at the age of 7 yr, 99.89% at the 8 yr and 98.87% at 12 yr. The filled teeth rate was 0.00% at the age of 7 yr, 0.11% at 8 yr and 1.14% at 12 yr, thus suggesting that little treatment for dental caries was supplied to these children.
