Epidemiological studies on diabetes mellitus in korea cutaneous manifestation of diabetes mellitus

, : Epidemiological studies on diabetes mellitus in korea cutaneous manifestation of diabetes mellitus. Korean Journal of Dermatology 19(1): 47-54

The clinical observations regarding cutaneous manifestations of in- and outpatients with diabetes mellitus were performed in the Diabetic Clinic, Seoul National University Hospital, during the period from April, 1979 to March, 1980. There were 525 patients, 268 male and 257 female. The average age of patients was 51.1 yr old. Of the patients, 270 (51.1%) revealed various cutaneous manifestations. There were statistically significant differences in sex distributions of infection, pruritus, shin spots, rubeosis and bullosis diabeticorum. Systemic complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy and hypertension were more frequently observed in the patients with skin microangiopathy than with infection or pruritus. There were no correlations between fasting blood sugar and cutaneous manifestations.
