Epidemiological studies on personal injury accidents caused by motor vehicles part 2 epidemiological study and case analysis of the causes of pedestrian accidents

, : Epidemiological studies on personal injury accidents caused by motor vehicles part 2 epidemiological study and case analysis of the causes of pedestrian accidents. Journal of the Kansai Medical University 28(1): 82-89

The causes of pedestrian accidents were studied in the area of Moriguchi and Kadoma, Japan, from 1964-1968. Most pedestrian accidents occurred on city roads, and child victims increased. Pedestrian roads and truck roads should be separate and traffic safety facilities should be improved to prevent accidents in wider truck roads. Drivers should give the pedestrian the right of way. Enforcement and education for safe driving, especially speed control, are essential for the prevention of pedestrian accidents, especially among children on city roads of residental districts. Drivers were often speeding in pedestrian accidents on state roads and prefectural roads. Pedestrian accidents especially among infants on city roads often occurred even with lower car speeds. Infant accidents on city roads were often caused by lack of safety sense and unsafe behavior of drivers.
