, : Epidemiological study of a trichophyton mentagrophytes var granulosum infection in noncommercial raising of rabbits. Revista Iberica de Micologia 1(2): 41-48

A epidemiological study of human and animal tinea in a rural area of metropolitan area of Barcelona (Spain) is presented. Parents and 4 daughters of 13 mo. 5, 7 and 10 yrs consulted for tinea corporis or capitis due to T. mentagrophytes var. granulosum. The study of rabbits near the home of affected people revealed a great incidence of dermatophytoses in animal, due to the same species. Another 4 persons were detected with tinea; all these people were neighbors. This study shows the high incidence of T. mentagrophytes var. granulosum in Barcelona, and also the importance of rabbits in the epidemiological chain of human tinea.
