, : Epidemiological study of rheumatic diseases in the municipality of forni avoltri udine italy. Friuli Medico 42(2): 145-152

An epidemiological study of rheumatic diseases was carried out in Forni Avoltri, Italy, which has a large elderly population. Out of the 1050 residents of the town, 759 were interviewed about osteoarticular problems and the recourse taken. It was found that 43.4% of the women and 22.1% of the men suffered from rheumatic diseases, most of whom had not been examined. Only one patient, who had rheumatoid arthritis, knew has exact pathology. The incidence of rheumatic disease increased with age. The majority of those who had rheumatic symptoms had not even consulted a doctor, often turning to traditional treatments. Nonsteroidal antiinfammatory drugs were consumed mostly by women.
