Epidemiological study on the sexual behavior of college students

, : Epidemiological study on the sexual behavior of college students. Union Medicale du Canada 115(9): 668-671

In the course of an epidemiological study, we evaluated the sexual behavior of college students and their degree of knowledge concerning sexual matters. As samples, we used 200 male and 250 female students, aged 15 to 20 years. As a result of our analysis, we found that 58.3% of the students already had sexual relations and the average age of the first intercourse was 16.5 years. During 1976, a similar study found that 48.2% of the students had sexual relations and the average age was 17.3 years. Furthermore, in the 1984 study, we found that almost half of the students (46%) did not use any contraceptive in their first intercourse. Our study proved conclusively that sexuality is a phenomenon of constantly growing interest to college students. Consequently, physicians would do well to acquaint themselves with related problems in that field.
