Epidemiology of arterial hypertension and ischemic heart disease among the rural population of the kuban russian sfsr ussr

, : Epidemiology of arterial hypertension and ischemic heart disease among the rural population of the kuban russian sfsr ussr. Kardiologiya 20(12): 84-89

One-stage epidemiological examination of 2010 persons among the organized rural population in the Krasnodar Territory was conducted. Most (81.8%) of the persons examined were engaged in physical work in various branches of agriculture, and 18.2% were office workers. Arterial hypertension was found in 10.9% and border-line in 9.6%; increased arterial pressure was diagnosed in 38.8% of these cases for the 1st time. Ischemic heart disease was found in 4.7% of persons examined; in 43.1% it was revealed for the 1st time. A close relationship between the frequency of coronary diseases and the level of arterial pressure was established. The study did not yield indisputable data on the effect of factors like physical exercise, hypercholesterolemia, smoking and a positive familial history on the frequency of arterial hypertension.
