Epidemiology of cardio vascular diseases under urban conditions in the population of krakow

From among 110,000 steady inhabitants of the midtown section of the city of Krakow [Poland] aged 20-69 yr, 3352 probands chosen randomly were examined for cardiologic disease using the questionnaire of Rose (1209 men and 1564 women, i.e., 2773 subjects or 82.7% of the sample). Medical and ECG examinations were carried out in the 2nd stage in 1975, in 837 men and 1138 women who answered the questionnaire. It was necessary under urban conditions to have a reserve group of probands numbering about 5% of the sample. Analysis of reasons for non-examination of a certain proportion of the probands indicates relation to age, education and marital status.
