Estimation of photosynthetic pigments in red algae interference of hydro soluble pigments extraction on chlorophyll a estimation

The determination of hydrosoluble photosynthetic pigments often results in an under-estimation of chlorophyll a. This was determined in Chondrus crispus to result from acidification of the medium and is avoided when a buffer is used.
