This is the 1st report of E. womonana (Lepidoptera: Olethreutidae) as a pest of cultivated sunflower, Helianthus annuus L. A new record of E. womonana from the roots of H. divaricatus L. is also reported. Larvae of E. womonana infested the roots of 72-88% of sunflower seeded in mid-June or later at Bushland, Texas, [USA], in 1977. Degrees of susceptibility among breeding lines of sunflower were apparent.
