Evaluation of 2 major carp hybrids catla rohu and catla mrigal through composite fish culture

Evaluation of 2 major carp hybrids catla rohu and catla mrigal through composite fish culture

Indian Journal of Animal Sciences 54(12): 1158-1162

Two intergeneric major carp hybrids, catla-rohou and catla-mrigal were produced and raised to fingerling stage. These fingerlings were introduced in composite fish culture in place of rohu and mrigal, respectively, to assess the growth potential of the hybrids vis-a-vis rohu and mrigal. When reared for 8 mo., catla-rohu attained better average individual weight than rohu, while catla-mrigal proved inferior to mrigal. The advantage of using catla-rohu hybrid in place of rohu under composite fish culture is discussed.
