Evaluation of a liquid liquid extraction technique for water pollutants
A simple liquid-liquid extraction technique was evaluated and judged to be useful for semiquantitative determination of 37 organic pollutants present in water at concentrations of 50 .mu.g/l or better. Gas chromatographic analysis of hexane extracts showed detection limits of .ltoreq. 5 .mu.g/l for 30 compounds, recoveries of .gtoreq. 80% for 20 compounds and, generally, peak area precision of better than .+-. 5% for triplicate sample analyses. Storage of aqueous standard solutions at C for 4 wk did not significantly affect recovery values.
