Evaluation of additive and non additive gene effects for some economic traits in white leghorn chicken

, : Evaluation of additive and non additive gene effects for some economic traits in white leghorn chicken. Indian Journal of Animal Sciences 57(4): 300-305

The results from a 4 .times. 4 diallel cross showed that the overall weighted means of strain crosses were higher than the pure strains for egg production, egg weight and egg mass except for sexual maturity. The heterosis averaged over all the strain crosses were 5.51, 2.46, 6.54 and -3.17% respectively. GCA, SCA and reciprocal effects were significant for egg production and age at sexual maturity. For egg weight reciprocal effect and for egg mass GCA effect were nonsignificant. SCA effects for all the traits were the most important sources of variation. Reciprocal effects were also significant in some of the interstrain crosses.
