Evaluation of adjuvant therapy in soft tissue sarcoma a collaborative multidisciplinary approach

Evaluation of adjuvant therapy in soft tissue sarcoma a collaborative multidisciplinary approach

Soft tissue sarcomas are tumors of mesenchymal origin which account for about 1% of all malignant tumors in adults. Adjuvant chemotherapy attempts to destroy any metastases or residual tumor when the tumor burden is at its lowest. A current E.O.R.T.C./WHO trial was set up involving a combination of adriamycin, DTIC [5-(3,3-dimethyl-1-triazeno)-imidazole-4-carboxamide], vincristine and cyclophosphamide. The objectives are to study the role of chemotherapy as an adjunct to surgery in the management of soft tissue sarcoma of the extremities and of the head and neck region. Guidelines are given.
