Evaluation of soil tests for zinc in central alluvial soils of uttar pradesh

The suitability of the 6 extractants, 0.1N HCl, 1N NH4OAc [ammonium acetate] (pH 4.6), 1N NH4OAc (pH 7.0), 2N MgCl2, 1N NH4OAc (pH 7.0) + dithizone, and EDTA for determining available Zn in alluvial soils of Uttar Pradesh [India] was evaluated. The soil test values for available Zn were correlated with the percent yield and the concentration and uptake of Zn in wheat grain and straw. The highest correlations between soil test values and various variables were observed when NH4OAc + dithizone was employed. The critical limit of dithizone extractable Zn was 0.45-0.80 ppm.
