Evidence on the pliocene pleistocene paleo floristic evolution in central italy

, : Evidence on the pliocene pleistocene paleo floristic evolution in central italy. Rivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia 83(4): 925-930

Pollen analysis [vascular plants] of some sedimentary deposits in Central Italy (Latium, Umbria and Tuscany) shows the main modifications in pollen assemblages derived from the changes in the vegetational features of the ancient landscape. The different stages of palaeofloristic evolution clearly outline a chronostratigraphical scheme. A selected floristic coenosis through climatic fluctuations (lower and upper part of the Upper Villafranchian = Lower Pleistocene) gradually rises in Latium, Umbria and Tuscany from the Pliocene subtropical forest (= Lower Villafranchian) evidenced in Umbria and Tuscany.
