Experience of percutaneous nephroureterolithotomy pnl

The experience of 22 percutaneous nephroureterolithotomies (PNL), the new treatment for urolithiasis, was reported. After the nephrostomy tract made by puncture under echoguide, was dilated, nephroscope was inserted into the renal pelvis. Stone disintegration and removal were performed by means of an ultrasound and electrohydraulic disintegrator and special forceps. In conclusion, the treatments were effective in 20 out of 22 cases. As regards complications, there were two cases of mild congestive heart failure due to retroperitoneal extravasation of the irrigating fluid, however, no other complications requiring emergency intervention were observed. PNL proved to be an effective and safe procedure when skillfully employed.
