Experimental parasitism of triatominae eggs hemiptera reduviidae by the micro hymenoptera ooencyrtus trinidadensis venatorius chalcidoidea encyrtidae and telenomus costalimai proctotrupoidea scelionidae

O. trinidadensis venatorius and T. costalimai are natural endophagous parasitoids of Rhodnius prolixus eggs in Venezuela. The experimental parasitism by these Microhymenoptera was studied in 8 other spp. of triatomines. O. trinidadensis venatorius parasitized all species offered, while T. costalimai parasitized only Rhodnius spp. If the natural host (R. prolixus) was not available, both parasites were capable of using some alternate host for their reproduction. In O. trinidadensis venatorius, a positive correlation was observed between the weight of the host egg and average number of emerged progeny; T. costalimai was a solitary parasitoid regardless of host egg weight. R. prolixus is the best host species for mass rearing the 2 parasites in the laboratory.
