In order to make clear the relation between the soil splash and the surface erosion of slope, some experiments on soil splash by a water-drop and on surface erosion of slope by simulated rainfall were carried out. In these experiments, soil material was coastal sand which was sifted into five varieties of grain-size distribution. The results may be summarized as follows: The correlation between the depth of hole eroded by a water-drop and the soil particle size was significant. The maximum moved distance of soil particles splashed by a water-drop increased as the soil particle size decreased. But the correlation between the soil particle size and average moved distance was not significant. In the condition of same water-drop size, the weight of particles splashed by a water-drop was constant regardless of the soil particle size. As a result of experiments on surface erosion of slope by simulated rainfall, sediment yield increased as the soil particle sized decreased. The lower limit of the diameter of water-drops which could splash a soil particle depended on the soil particle size. Therefore, the magnitude of raindrop impact per unit time which took part in the soil splash was different according to the soil particle size in spite of the condition of same rainfall intensity.
