Extraction of ionic pairs and distribution diagrams their applications for extraction in partition chromatography 2. reserpine and rescinnamine

This work reports the determination of the Pka value of reserpine and rescinnamine by the spectrophotometric method at 215 and 233nm respectively. The distribution of two alkaloids between two phases using ether as organic solvent and several buffer solutions at different pH values was studied. The results were used to build the logarithmic distribution diagrams. It also presents the results obtained in the partition studies of alkaloids between chloroform and either sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid at various concentrations. The partition studies were also done with alkaloids at different concentrations in chloroform and either sulfuric acid 0.1M or phosphoric acid 0.1M as aqueous phase. A mixture of reserpine and butabarbital was analyzed by partition column chromatography.
