An experiment on feed intake and digestibility of male buffaloes on elephant grass (P. purpureum, Hawaii species) was conducted at the Animal Husbandry Research Institute, Bogor. Nine male buffaloes (1.5-2 yr old with 165-215 kg live weight) were used in a 34 day trial, applying a completely randomized block design with 2 periods. The 1st period showed that the dry matter intake of the leaf of elephant grass was more than that of the stalk and pure elephant grass (P < 0.05). The results of the 2nd period were fiber digestion of the leaf of elephant grass was higher than that of the stalk of elephant grass with (P < 0.05) but a non-significant effect (P > 0.05) was found between protein digestion of the leaf of elephant grass and the pure elephant grass. The digestion of male buffaloes on stall of elephant grass was not significantly different (P > 0.05) compared with pure elephant grass.
