Abstract
Twelve-week-old tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. 'Little Turkish') leaves were infected with tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). Ultrastructural examination of TMV-infected leaf tissue revealed distortion in microbody membranes, chloroplasts, plastoglobuli, mitochondria and cell walls. TMV appears to freely invade the chloroplast envelope plasma and mitochondrial membranes, and spreads throughout the cytoplasmic areas of the cell following inoculation.
