Formation of alfalfa plant generative and vegetative organs during nitrogen deficit in the nutrient medium

The effect of temporary N deficit at the individual phases of development on the formation of alfalfa plant organs and N uptake was studied under the conditions of a vegetation pot experiment. The temporary exclusion of N from the nutrient medium during the first 3 phases of plant development reduces the quantity of dry matter. After temporary N starvation alfalfa plants restore the formation of dry matter in the vegetative organs more quickly than in the generative organs. Exclusion of N from the nutrient medium reduces its percentage involvement on the leaves only during the 2 phases of plant development. Due to the disturbance of the growth processes during temporary N starvation the plants take up and accumulate smaller quantities both of this element and of the remaining elements: P, K, Ca and Mg. No disturbance in the balance and ratio of these elements in alfalfa plants was assessed.
