Gallium 67 citrate scan for evaluation of myo cardial damage in kawasakis disease

67Ga scans (31) were performed in 22 cases with Kawasaki's disease (MCLS) to evaluate myocardial damage. The evaluation of 67Ga scan was followed to diagnostic criteria which were made with a degree of relative radioactive accumulation to the myocardial region at 48 h of the postinjection. There were 6 cases (27.2%) as negative, 10 cases (45.6%) as equivocal and 6 cases (27.2%) as possible positive identified on 67Ga scan, respectively. Two cases with possible positive scan showed clinical signs indicating myocardial damage. One was suddenly dead on the 21st day from onset. In the other case was the coronary aneurysm disclosed on ultrasonography. The white blood cell count at scan is statistically different (P < 0.05) between negative group and possible positive group on 67Ga scan. The mechanism of the accumulation of 67Ga citrate to damaged myocardium can not be accurately explained. 67Ga might be appreciated to concentrate to an active pathological myocardial process such as the diffuse myocarditis.
