Genetic analysis of some fiber and seed characters in upland cotton gossypium hirsutum

Genetic analysis of some fiber and seed characters in upland cotton gossypium hirsutum

Crop Improvement 11(2): 132-134

The inheritance of halo-length, seed index and lint index was studied in F1, F2, F3 and 1st backcross [1/2 (B1 + B2)] generations of an 11- parent diallel set in upland cotton (G. hirsutum L.). Both additive and dominance gene effects were observed for halo-length; however, epistatic interactions together with predominant dominance effects were involved in the genetic control of seed index and lint index. The parent H297 (P8) appeared the most promising, having a greater number of favorable genes for all the 3 characters under investigation.
