Genetic analysis of the number of pyloric ceca in the brown trout salmo trutta and the rainbow trout salmo gairdneri 3. effect of the genotype and egg size on expression of this characteristic in the brown trout

Genetic analysis of the number of pyloric ceca in the brown trout salmo trutta and the rainbow trout salmo gairdneri 3. effect of the genotype and egg size on expression of this characteristic in the brown trout

Annales de Genetique et de Selection Animale 11(1): 93-104

The variation of the number of pyloric ceca in hatchery-reared brown trout (S. trutta) was analyzed. The sex of the animals has no significant influence, and an important part of variability is caused by additive genetic factors (heritability = 0.4). There is a maternal effect on the size of eggs with alevins hatched from large eggs generally having higher numbers of ceca (correlation = +0.5). The joint action of maternal factors and other genetic and environmental factors apparently includes interactive effects, which should be studied further.
