Inheritance of crossability with diploid rye (RR, 2n = 14) was studied in (F1-F3) of common wheat (AABBDD, 2n = 42). High crossability with rye in wheat is a recessive character and at least 2 genes with various degrees of expression are responsible for this crossability. A genetic method for increasing crossability in common wheat by hybridization with varieties carrying genes for compatibility with rye was experimentally proved.
