Genetic quality control of inbred mouse strains 2. determination of some morphological and immunological markers in 23 inbred strains of mice

Mice from 23 inbred strains maintained in the Institute of Oncology in Warsaw [Poland] were controlled for 4 coat color genes: a, b, c, d and 6 immunological markers: Lyt-1, Lyt-2, Lyt-3, Thy-1, TL and H-2. Test crosses with DBA/2 mice having recessive genotype a, b, d were used for the control of coat color genes. Immunological markers were tested using microcytotoxic method. The patterns of the controlled marker genes were the same as those described elsewhere in mice from the same strains. No genetic differences occurred, as far as controlled markers were concerned, between CBA/HW and CBAT6T6/W, DBA/2W and DBA/2Wf and among C3H/W, C3H/Wf and C3H/AW substrains, in spite of their independent breeding for many generations. The results obtained for BN/a and BN/b mice confirmed earlier observations that genetic difference in Lyt-1 locus existed between these 2 strains. These findings make a part of the work aiming at the construction of genetic profiles for the inbred mouse strains.
