A. saxatilis and A. troschelii from the Atlantic and Pacific sides of Panama are geminate species that show little morphological differentiation. Absolute differences occur at 7 of 28 enzyme loci. The clock hypothesis suggests a divergence time of 5 million yr. Genotypic evolution of enzyme loci appears to be a function of time and uncorrelated with the rate of morphological evolution.
