Char skin mucus was collected at successive time intervals (0-2, 3-5 and 6-8 h) after fish death. The 3 fractions obtained varied significantly with gel chromatography analysis in solubility properties and chemical composition. At least some of the mucin glycoprotein of the 6-8 h mucus sample was secreted as incomplete glycoprotein molecules.
