Growth of broiler chickens during partial substitution of grass meal for maize and wheat grain in mixed feed

Growth of broiler chickens during partial substitution of grass meal for maize and wheat grain in mixed feed

Izvestiya Timiryazevskoi Sel'skokhozyaistvennoi Akademii (6): 146-153

The effect of mixed feed with higher amounts of grass meal on the growth of white Plymouth Rock broilers was studied. Adding up to 5% (mass) of grass meal to mixed feed in the 1st period of growing and up to 10% in the 2nd period did not result in a lower growth rate. Addition of vitamins D, E and B12 to the feed and supplementing the ration with 10 and 15% grass meal (by the growing periods) increased the chickens' live mass 3.5% more than the control. Fodder consumption increased and utilization of fodder energy decreased when substiting with grass meal. Chemical composition of the carcass did not change. The amount of vitamin A and carotene in it increased.
