Experimental studies were conducted to investigate the effect of prefeeding a common food color metanil yellow at 0.0 (control), 0.1, 0.5 and 3.0 g/kg body weight concentrations. Peripheral and venous blood was used for the hematological investigations. Differential leukocyte count (DLC) showed a decrease in the absolute number of neutrophils and an increase in the absolute number of lymphocytes suggesting the possibility of lymphocytosis or acute lymphocyte leukemia. Increased coagulation time was noticed. Heinz bodies were not observed and no changes were found in other hematalogical values.
