In a diallel cross involving 10 varieties of sesamum the magnitude of negative heterosis was higher than positive heterosis. Number of branches and number of capsules per plant were the main contributing attributes for seed yield. 'N66-173' and 'T.C. 66' are the best general combiners and 'T.C. 66' .times. 'M3-1' and 'N66-173' .times. 'S.I. 1551' showed high specific combining ability effects for yield.
