Horizontal resistance of barley cultivars to brown rust puccinia hordei otth. and powdery mildew erysiphe graminis de candolle

Barley cultivars were tested for resistance to brown rust (P. hordei) and powdery mildew (E. graminis) in a 1984 - 1985 study. The barley cultivars involved differed considerably in terms of average numbers of sori and pustules per unit leaf area. Fewer and smaller in size rust sori and powdery mildew pustules were found on the resistant cultivars. The results of the study showed horizontal resistance to be characteristic of the Nadja, Juliane, Grande, Luther C. I. 13404 and Dover C. I. 10435 cultivars regarding brown rust and the Benita, Nadja, Grande, Va-70-44-313 and WB-972 cultivars regarding powdery mildew.
