Hormonal control of the callus growth and plant regeneration in nicotiana tabacum crown gall tumor

Hormonal control of callus growth and plant regeneration from N. tabacum crown gall tumor [caused by Agrobacterium tumefaciens] and cytogenetic study of the regenerated plants were carried out. White and compact calluses and high rate of multiple shoots formation were observed on the kinetin-free and hormone-free media. On the medium supplemented with kinetin only, the calluses formed single shoot, and on the medium supplemented with IAA and kinetin, the calluses did not form any shoot but rooted. The regenerated plants, having 48 chromosomes at root tip metaphase, were morphologically similar to normal plants during the growth and exceptionally developed new branch from the lateral bud after anthesis.
