Hormonal induction of multiple births in korean native cows

Hormonal induction of multiple births in korean native cows

Korean Journal of Animal Science 22(6): 491-494

The rate of multiple births in Korean native cows treated with s.c. injection of 1000 IU PMS [pregnant mare serum] on day 17 of the estrus cycle followed by an i.v. injection of 1000 IU HCG [human chorionic somatotropin] on the onset day of estrus was investigated. The rate of normal estrus exhibited was 78.9% in the 1st to 2nd parity cows and increased as the parity increased. The mean duration from PMS treatment to the onset of estrus was 4.3 days. There was no significant difference among the parities. The mean number of matured follicles per cow treated was 1.2. There was no significant difference among the parities. The rates of multiple births were 4.8, 40.0 and 23.9% for 1st to 2nd parity, over 3rd parity and overall, respectively. They increased with each parity.
