An earlier waning of mast cell degranulation in the connective tissue, a decline in the index of spleen lymphocyte migration inhibition and low titers of humoral antibody were observed in mice infected with a laboratory strain of T. spiralis and given mebendazole for 3 or 7 days as compared with untreated animals. A decline in specific immunologic responsiveness correlates with the dose of the drug given and was more marked in mice receiving 525 mg/kg of mebendazole. The decline in the immunological responsiveness of the host may be due to cessation of host sensitization because of an early death of the parasites and to the immunosuppressive effect of the drug.
