A hexadecapeptide, H-Arg-Leu-Pro-Gly-Pro-Pro-Asn-Thr-Pro-Ile-Leu-Pro-Gln-Ser-Leu-Pro-OH, corresponding to the C-terminal sequence 132-147 of hCG-.beta. [human chorionic gonadotropin .beta.-subunit] was synthesized stepwise by fragment condensation, assembling 5 fragments [Z[benzyloxycarbonyl]-Arg(NO2)-Leu-Pro-NHNHBoc [butyloxycarbonyl], Z-Gly-Pro-Pro-NHNHBoc, Z-Asn-Thr-Pro-NHNHBoc, Z-Ile-Leu-Pro-NHNHBoc and Z-Gln-Ser-Leu-Pro-OBu+ [t-butoxy]].
