Ice storm damage to thinned loblolly pine plantations in northern louisiana usa

Ice storm damage to thinned loblolly pine plantations in northern louisiana usa

Southern Journal of Applied Forestry 2(3): 83-85

A single ice storm caused heavy damage to loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) stands row-thinned during the preceding year, but more than 200 undamaged trees per acre were left in all stands. A 2nd ice storm the following year virtually destroyed half of the stands and left only a marginal number of trees in those remaining. A stand thinned from below suffered only light damage.
