Twenty-nine varieties of brinjal obtained from different parts of India were grown in a field at Ludhiana [India] and were kept under observation to record the natural incidence of Tetranychus-neocaledonicus and T. cinnabarinus, 2 important mite pests of vegetable crops. Both species were observed first at the end of Jan. 1973. Thereafter observations were recorded periodically. A comparative grading based on the pooled analysis of the data of 5 observations revealed that none of the varieties tested was resistant to the 2 mites. Variety Pusa Purple Cluster appeared to be susceptible to both.
