Mutations were induced in bengal gram variety, N-59 using 10, 20 and 40 kR dose of .gamma.-rays. Selected progenies were studied in M4 generation for yield and components of yield. Increase in variability was observed in most of the characters. Higher estimates of heritability were observed for the character yield/plant and 100 grain weight. Similarly high genetic advance was observed in the character yield and 100 grain weight. The implication of high heritability and high expected genetic advance are discussed. Characters, number of pods/plant, plant height and 100 grain weight showed positive association with yield.
