Influence of chlorpromazine lidocaine and procaine on the electrophoretic motility of rat erythrocytes

Influence of chlorpromazine lidocaine and procaine on the electrophoretic motility of rat erythrocytes

Eksperimentalna Meditsina i Morfologiya 19(4): 224-228

The influence was examined of chlorpromazine on the electrophoretic motility of erythrocytes using microelectrophoresis. The results were compared with data, obtained from analogous studies on the effect of local anesthetics (procaine and lidocaine) on erythrocyte membranes. Erythrocytes (6 .cntdot. 108 erythrocytes/ml) were incubated at temperature of 20.degree. C for a period of 15 min. Erythrocytes diminished their electrophoretic motility after incubation with labilizing concentration (10-5 M) of chlorpromazine and procaine and lidocaine, but after treatment with stabilizing concentration (10-7 M) they increased their electrophoretic motility. There was a reverse dependence between the hemolytic and pharmacological action of the 3 preparations and the change, which they induced on the superficial electrical charge.sbd.a greater change in the superficial electric charge induced those, which were weaker hemolytics and had weaker pharmacological effect.
